The City of Cologne gave the HGK planning permission to develop the harbour in 2007. In August 2009, construction was halted until further notice for official reasons. At that time, the part of the Sürth Plain that was to be used for the development of the harbour had already been cleared. This means that there is currently a substantial part of the natural conservation area of the Sürth Plain that is wasteland; at the same time, compensatory measures were taken. If you click on the small images, you can see the difference of the status before and after the clearing.
